The Brodsky Quartet

We are thrilled and honoured to welcome one of the greatest British chamber ensembles, the Brodsky Quartet: a fitting way for us to celebrate our 60th Anniversary, as they celebrate their 50th.

Since forming in 1972, the quartet have performed over 3,000 concerts on the major stages of the world and have released more than 60 recordings. For us, they will begin with Shostakovich’s First Quartet, which the composer said conveyed “bright moods associated with spring”.

Let’s hope the weather is in sympathy with the music. Then we will hear Schubert’s liltingly lyrical Thirteenth Quartet, the “Rosamunde”, and finally Britten’s Second, with its haunting muted slow movement and its powerful extended chaconne finale. This occasion simply cannot be missed.
